Click Start, then Log Off. You should then get a logon prompt, and if you
log on with a username and password "known" to the Windows 2000 computers
that should straighten out the rest.

I am a novice at this so please be patient. I am not sure what you mean when
you say "logon with a user name and password "known" to the Windows 2000
computers".
How do I let it be known to the 2000 computers?
I logon the 2000 computer as Administrator - no password. I logon the
Windows 98 as George Lawshe - no password.
Since I am the only one using this network I would like not to have
passwords, but if neccessary will use them.
Thanks for your help

Instead of logging in as George Lawshe, log in as Administrator.
Another option would be to create another user account on each of the
Win 2000 machines with George Lawshe as the user name. Passwords are not
required. The Windows 2000 machine will not allow any other computer to
access shared files or anything if that remote computers login name and
password don't match a local account.
In other words here is what is happening now. Your Windows 98 machine is
sending a request to view files on the Windows 2000 machine. The Windows
2000 machine asks for a user name and password (behind the scenes in the
networking protocols). The Windows 98 machine responds with George
Lawshe - no password. Since the Windows 2000 machine does not have an
account named George Lawshe the request is rejected.
The key is to make sure that every machine has the same users and
passwords (or lack thereof) set up on them. Windows 2000 and newer
requires this to beef up the security on networks. Older Windows
versions had terrible security but it did make file sharing really easy.
Now that the Internet is connected with most networks, security is a
real concern.
Hope that helps.

Tim has hit the nail on the head - use a username (and password, if one is
used) that you use to log onto the Windows 2000 computers.

I am still having trouble connecting the Win 98 and Win 2000 computers. All
three have the same login name .
The Win 2000s computers seem to connect ok, but neither one recognizes the
Win 98 and the Win 98 recognizes itself, but not the Win 2000 computers.
I am using Client for Microsoft Networks in the Win 98 computer, is this
correct?
I am logged on as George Lawshe in the Win 98 Computer (same as the Win 2000
Computers). In Win 2000 I can find the dialog box with each user log on
info. I can not find that same info in Win 98, I may not be logged on as
administrator, how can I check?

Same logon name AND password on all three?
Any firewall software running on any of the computers?
