lost networking

hello,,I have two comp hooked up with a crossover cable=each one is running
win98=both have internet access with ics==the gateway can see and access my
comp,but mine can`t see or access the gateway (for file transfer and
whatever)both have shared folders have file and print sharing setup on
both=mine also has vnc viewer on it==gateway has vnc server on it==have
access with vnc==its no big deal ==just wondering what went
wrong==everything used to work fine until recently==on my comp in network
neighborhood no comp shows up
