Hi,

I have a desktop that connects to the internet via a modem (dial-up).
It connects and get an ip from the server. When I try to browse to a
web page, it cannot reach it (gives an error). If I type the IP address
directly, it will load the web page...

I know That I can go directly in the TCP/IP properties to specify the
DNS server, but normally the ISP server provides this automatically. It
was working normally until yesterday, it decided to stop working...

Any ideas please?

if it "was" working and now isn't ...contact your provider and ask if their
DNS server is down :>

Hey Haggis,

Thank you for your thoughts.

I've tried the newer winsockfix.exe utility that they mention at the
link below, and it worked beautifully. It seems that when we remove
some spywares (using ad-aware, spybot, etc.) it also messes up the
winsock.
