Thank you for your thoughts.
I've tried the newer winsockfix.exe utility that they mention at the
link below, and it worked beautifully. It seems that when we remove
some spywares (using ad-aware, spybot, etc.) it also messes up the
winsock.

That was going to be the second round :> check obvious first right?
there are a few nasties that will corrupt your winsock ...keep that fix
