Hi!
I have Windows 98 workstations in a network with a DHCP enabled but they are
picking the 255.255.0.0 mask instead of 255.255.255.0. I also have WinXP
workstations which are however picking up the correct address.
Anyone one had an idea on what's causing the mismatch?
Thanks

looks like someone may have set it up manually
under tcp/ip properties just enable: "obtain an IP address automatically"

All the win98s are in DHCP mode... any other idea?
Thanks

well,
you could try just the opposite and assign the dns and net mask manually

Also check to see who the DHCP server is. (go to command prompt and tipe
ipconfig /all)
I had one incident where a print server could (and was) a DHCP server.
except it was interfering the proper DHCP server. half the computers
couldn't see the other half.
See ya

There's a Win2k3 server on the network acting as DHCP server but I'll have a
second check to see if there is another DHCP interfering. Its strange though
that only Win98 workstations are experiencing this mask problem. The other
XP (SP2) works just fine.
Thanks

Hi!
I am axperiencing the same problem... well, it's not THE SAME. The one I am
experiencing is:
When IP Address expiration occurs, the DHCP server gives this IP to another
PC, and when the old PC that had this IP address is turned on, a conflict
occurs and it does not release the address and change it's submas mask to
any other than class B that is the one we use.
It only occurs with windows 98 and 95.
I am trying to solve this problem seting "Lease
duration for DHCP clients" option for "Unlimited", so it never will give the
address to other PC.
