By the task bar button, I meant the one that appears on the task bar when you open a
program and goes away when you close it. I wanted to verify that the program is actually
closing instead of just getting minimized. If it just got minimized the button would
remain.
I am curious why your button on the quick launch menu (next to the start button) doesn't
work and wonder if that might be related to your problem. Right click that button a look
at the properties.
The target should generally be:
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe"
Also do the same for the desktop icon that does work. The 2 should be the same.
One thing that comes to mind is if you made the desk top icon by moving the MSIMN.EXE
program to the desk top rather than creating a short cut. That would break the quick
launch short cut (as well as other things) from working.
In Tools, Options, Compose, have you selected a default stationery for Mail? If not, does
that work?
I take it your problem occurs when you are composing an HTML format message and select
Format, Apply Stationery.

I'm not sure what you mean by "outlookexpress closes all the way down to the desktop like
you are trying to open an html page". IF you mean that when you click a link in OE, it
opens a web page, OE is still running. It's just that the web page opened in an IE
browser in front of OE. You can get back to OE by clicking on the rectangular button on
the task bar, or by using Alt/Tab (Hold down the ALT key while pressing the TAB key to
cycle through each open program.
Setting a default stationery could tell if the issue is some corrupted stationery files.
You might be better served in a Stationery specific newsgroup.
All the stationery groups have migrated to a private server on microsoft.com The private
server can be accessed using the following settings in a new news account:
Server: privatenews.microsoft.com
Account Name: privatenews\stationery
Password: stationery
Or you can access some stationery newsgroups via the web:
