I am trying to help out a friend of mine who is having a problem with DAT
files named ~.dat appearing on his desktop after he has used Outlook Express
to send mail. (He lives 500 miles away from me, so I can't pop around to
take a look at his PC!)
These files seem to contain random entries from his address book. Sending
is apparently unimpaired, so it is essentially an annoyance rather than a
major problem.
He is running OE6 under W98, and uses NAV2004.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to cause, and possible cures, please?

Have him check in at Windows Update.
