Hello All
I accidentally needed my friend's hotmail account from OE.  When I tried to
reconfigure through hotmail web site I was told that Hotmail is no longer
offering this service to basic service users.  I found a paper on the net by
Marc Liron Microsoft MVP about configuring hotmail with OE but this is for
OE6 not OE5 which is what my friend has.  OE5 does not have the HTTP option
with hotmail on it that OE6 has.  Is the best way forward to upgrade to OE6
( a huge download on dial up if I remember rightly) or is there a way to
configure OE5 with hotmail bypassing the HTTP option?

If the account hasn't been accessed online in several months, you may be out
of luck.

If the account hasn't been accessed in OE since late Sept-04, you may be out
of luck.

Thanks Mr Bear
rereading my message I should have typed "deleted" not "needed" on the first
line.  My friend has used his OE account regularly but I doubt whether he
has accessed it on line for several months.  The link you sent me assumes
that the HTTP option for hotmail is there which it is not in OE5.  The
conclusion I draw is that the only way to reconfigure is to update to IE6.
Is this correct?

OE5.0 /should/ have the option but as the KB article clearly points out, "If
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is not an available choice, you are using
an earlier version of Outlook Express that does not support Hotmail.  To
upgrade your version of Outlook Express, view the following Microsoft Update
Web site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com "

If the account hasn't been accessed in OE or at www.hotmail.com in several
months, Hotmail may have deleted the account from their servers.
