My Outlook Express doesn't seem to remember that last folder an attachment
was saved to.  I regularly check Windows update and believe I have all the up
to date patches but I may have missed something.
I'd appreciate any ideas you chaps might have

OE version 6.00.2800.1123
Windows 98SE

Hmm... I'm not even sure where to start with this one. Do you have a habit
of cleaning out MRU or other data when you shut down your PC? If you save an
email now and then try it (I actually happened to be using an 98se box right
as I was looking at this on this screen <g>) and then save another file in
20 minutes or so does it still save to the same location or does it only
revert to the default "My Documents" (I think) when you reboot or have
cleaned your PC with a cleaning application such as X-Cleaner?

Hello Galen,
Thanks for the info, I'm only really running the basics on this machine as
in Anti-Virus, Firewall, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster, a Pop-up blocker
and a junk cookie app.  I've not had chance to run any sort of disk manager
so I don't think I've messed with the MRU or the registry yet LOL.  I've
tried the save E-mail trick but it reverts to D:\ (I'm running two hard
drives no CD-RW) which the My Documents link points to.
Oh well I'll just have to get into gear and sort the laptop out LOL

Regards

That's a known bug that's fixed in XP SP2.  I'm not sure if there is a corresponding
update for Win98.

There is a workaround fix:

Set the "Save Attachment" Default in OE (Line 242)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Get
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/oesaveas_all.vbs
or
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/XP_OESaveAttPath.exe

*Note: for 9x systems, and possibly Win2K, you need the VB6 runtimes
installed to use the EXE version.

No, there's no update for Win98 or Win2000 that fixes this.  MS again
doesn't give a s__t about the OE user.

Is it me or are MS trying to get rid of all the old OS so we have to keep
buying all the brand new software?

There's no incentive for Microsoft to support the older OSes.  That's a cost without any
benefit to them.

And there is no incentive to fix bugs at all.  You don't make
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ fixing bugs.

Let the poor users suffer.
