Dialup or Broadband?  Have you checked under the Connection tab in *both*
Outlook Express and Internet Explorer to make sure they agree with one
another.

What are you doing that gives rise to this error, and is that the complete
text of the error message?

Hi Jim and thanks.
I am on dialup, and yes the connection is the same on IE and OE.
Here is the full error message as I get it :
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'SBC Yahoo! Mail - adrian_c_flores@prodigy.net',
Server: 'smtp.prodigy.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

Thank you again,
Adrian

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application.  It provides no
additional protection, it's probably causing the problem, and even Symantec
says it's not necessary:

<quote>
Disabling email protection does not leave you vulnerable to viruses and
malicious software in email. It is a separate layer of protection in
addition to Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect scans any incoming files, including
email, as they are saved to your hard drive. As long as you keep your virus
definitions up to date with LiveUpdate, and keep Auto-Protect enabled and
set to scan files as they are created or downloaded, your system is fully
protected.

As Bear has pointed out, the problem is most likely with your antivirus
program set to scan email.  Disable it and the problem should go away.  See
section 3 of the following KB article for more:

To jim and PA Bear,

Thanks for your continued effort to resolve the problem I'm having.
I have disabled my Norton AV email scanning and still have the same problem.
However I will do more research on the recommended KB and symantic articles
and reply on my progress.
Thanks
Adrian

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity.  Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity).  Assuming all is well, import messages
from the old Identity before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage
Identities).

OE Caveats:

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages.  Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline".  More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption.  Disable it.  It provides no additional protection.

This past weekend some people, myself included, have had problems with the SBC SMTP mail
servers.  When I had problems with port 25, I found that port 587 worked (Tools, Accounts,
Mail, Properties, Advanced).  That may be worth a try if you are still having problems.

PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!

Many Thanks to all of you great guys for the sharing of your knowledge.
You always come through in a pinch!
Apparently it was at the Yahoo end, I changed the port and it works as
designed.

Thanks again,
Adrian
