I am trying to copy personal files from OE6 working on a pc using Windows 98
SE to a new pc using Windows XP SP2 and OE6. I have copied the files to the
proper folder on the new pc and can see them using Windows Explorer but when
I open OE6, they do not appear. They do have the proper extension of .dbx.
Any suggestions or thoughts?

When you open OE, what *do* you see?
In OE, Tools menu, Options, Maintenance tab, Store Folder, is it pointing to
the right folder?
If you moved the files using a CD, are the DBX files Read-Only?

Have you made sure that the files are not 'Read Only'?
Having done the above go to OE > Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store
Folder> Change > browse to your new folder which contains the .dbx files
> c. OK then OK again to close dialogue boxes > OE will ask whether to
use the new messages > c. Yes > Close OE, open it again to see the old
messages on new PC.

You don't copy them to any folder on the new machine, you import them from
the backup you made.
1. Copy the data (*must* include Folders.dbx) from the backup to the
hard-drive of the WinXP machine. (Suggest a folder on Desktop for
convenience.)
2. Remove the Read Only attribute they'll almost certainly have by default.
3. OE: File > Import > Messages > OE6 (assuming OE5 or higher in Win98) >
From a store directory > Point the wizard to the Desktop folder > ...
