Hi,
Some time ago an mvp on this newsgroup advised me that deleted e-mails did
not actually get completely removed from the computer but still took up
space until you did something else to rid oneself of them for ever.
Could you guide me on how to do this.
Do they actually take up space on the hard drive(c-drive in my case)
Can you look anywhere to see how much space these are taking up
Many thanks Steve

Compacting removes the wasted disk space from deleted mails.
Each OE "folders" is actually an operating system DBX file (e.g. the
Inbox folder is a file named Inbox.dbx). Look in OE at Tools, Options,
Maintenance, Store Folder for the location of the DBX files. Looking
at that Windows folder with the Windows File Explorer and you can see
the sizes of the DBX files.
File, Folders, Compact All will do the compact function which recovers
the wasted disk space and gives it back to the operating system for use
by other programs and files.

And once you click File | Folder | Compact All leave the computer completely
alone until it finishes.

And make sure you do point 2 and 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx
Using OE 5.5 he should definitely do point 2.
