Try compacting your folders. Also do point 2 here:

You might try setting up a new Identity (File | Identities) and do point 2
again and then add the NG accounts and see if they work better there.

A new identity seemingly has done the trick! yay!
It has however, created other problems,
During 8 years of swimming around the same fishbowl
the new layout is confusing, I am bumping into unfamiliar obstacles.
Can you advise how I get my posts in this new identity to "Cascade"
from the original header.
Currently, each message is sorted by "sent" wherein it is difficult
to see the flow of the thread.
