I would like to help a  neighbour who is having a problem with OS.
Her problem is simple, how should she delete E-mail messages so that
they are stored in the deleted Items folder?

I installed OS on my PC to see if I could find a configuration
menus for this without success.  Sending myself an E-mail I deleted
it and it went into the deleted items folder.  Doing the same on the
neighbours PC leaves the deleted items filder empty.

Thank you,

Peter

Assuming you're talking about OE6. If not, directions differ. In
Tools>Options>Maintenance tab, uncheck everything. OK your way out then
close OE. Use Find>Files & Folders to locate DELETED.DBX and delete all
instances found.

Hope that works for you.

As Gary indicated, you probably need to delete her Deleted Items.dbx file,
as its probably corrupt.

If that doesn't fix it she may need to set up a new Identity via File |
Identities.

Make sure she also does points 2 and 3 here (www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx) and
backs up frequently.
