OE and unsafe attachments

This has probably been asked before but I went back and could not find
it.

I am running Win 98se with OE 6 and Outlook Express keeps telling me
that it has removed access to unsafe attachments which this last time
had an .EML file extension.  Is there anyway to stop this??  I would
like to be the one to decide what is safe for me or not.  If my ISP
removed it I could go along with it.

Usually when this happens I will have them send it to my AOL address
and it come through fine and my virus prog shows no problem.  It
"USUALLY" is just a pic anyways.

I am really getting tired of this and am about ready to go back to
Eudora for my mail prog!!

Any suggestion on how to get OE to send my attachments through would
be greatly appreciated.

TIA

If you go to OE>tools>options>security tab>and remove the
check mark from the 4th one down it may resolve this problem for you.
You could bookmark the following link, where you can search the
previously asked questions over many years, a very useful site.

Every attachment is potentially unsafe even if it is from a known and
trusted source and IT IS EXPECTED.

Reactivate after reading the attachment.

I hope the above is of use to you?

Anyone with a decent antivirus shouldn't fear attachments *too* much. To be
extra careful, attachments should be saved to a local folder on the HD and
manually scanned for viruses before opening. In the case of EML attachments,
I also go an extra step and open them in Notepad instead of d-clicking them
to open with OE. And I don't read emails or news messages in HTML except on
very rare occasions. PT only.

Thanks everyone so much for the help here.

As for attachments I do not even open mail unless it is from someone I
absolutely know or am expecting mail from but I come from a big family
(12 of us) and we exchange a lot of pics with each other.

Thanks again.
