Hello,

Is it OK to backup Outlook Express data on Windows 98se and import into
Outlook Express on Windows XP. I will not attempt to backup and import
anything having to do with the registry (like message rules). I'm mainly
interested in saving my address list, mail accounts, and news accounts.

I entend to transfer this backup file to Windows XP for installation via my
server and/or CD RW drive.

As long as you are running OE 5 or above on the Win98 PC, you can also
transfer message rules and such.  They are compatible.

Note that you cannot import directly from the CD.  OE doesn't like
read-only files.  You must copy the CD data to an empty folder on the
new PC hard disk, make sure that none of the files are still marked Read
Only and then import those.

Thanks Michael,

I prefer the import procedure. Thanks for letting me know that it can be
done:
