Hi All,
After much warning with slow loading time, and having to delete messages
from the web server, before my Inbox.dbx would load, it eventually corrupted
and I saved as InboxOld.dbx and made a folder to call it, to no avail. The
new Inbox.dbx works perfectly. Have I lost 635 megs of messages, or is there
a program to fix it? If I could just delete the last five unread messages, I
know I can pull it up again, but I don't have anything to view/edit that big
a file.
Thanks in Advance,
Bill

DBXtract or DBXpress (http://www.oehelp.com). You can drag the extracted
EML files back into a folder in OE. Don't use the Inbox, though, create a
new folder for archiving messages.

Why it happens:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx
Recovering the missing data: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx (#2 and #4).

DBXpress (faster, more powerful, with even greater functionality)
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

Avoiding Such Corruption in Future (Win98-specific):
- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.
- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.
- Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of
all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm
- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Hi Robear,
While the wife's away the mice will play. Actually I thought I'd better
check disk and that took 36 hours:
http://www.billhughes.com/temp/scandiskC42507.jpg Then my connection with
Hughes.net gave up as for par, and had to resort to AOL dial-up to get your
programs: http://www.billhughes.com/temp/DBXpress.jpg I think what I need
now is a program that'll fix that DBX file, it make for searching for past
messages much easier, than just a subject named file.
Thanks again, Bill

[It's not a good idea to post or use a real email address in newsgroup
posts, Bill.]
The DBX file can't be "fixed". Messages recovered by DBXpress can be
dragged into an OE folder.

Yes Robear, I realize most nowadays, most are not responsible, and blame
others for their failures.
