MSIMN fails in a way never seen before . . .
1. Under Win98SE on 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 with
512 Mb RAM, Win98 as stripped and simplified
and as fast as I can make it go:
2. Connected via Ethernet (wireless Internet)
with Mozilla Firefox as browser and Outlook
Express for mail and newsgroups: so that OE
may be loaded (1) from Start button, (2) called
from Firefox or (3) called from Mailwasher
mail filter.
All of a sudden Outlook Express just fails to
load completely i.e. hangs part way and must be
unloaded by Ctl Alt Del. The novel reference to
"OutlookExpressHiddenWindow" appeared in a message
box on /Shutdown / Reboot.
Everything in C:/Program Files/Outlook Express
appears identical to the backup clone of C: except
only for a couple of extra DLLs (don't know why:
dates seem not suspicious.) MS KB found 6 hits
for "hidden window" in OE.version 6, none for Win98,
none seeming likely.
Has anyone encountered this before? I have not in
a decade's use of OE. Advice? I could abandon
OE and use Thunderbird instead but have tried both
and still prefer OE.

I'd start here:
OE won't even start

Aargh -- it was just excessively large DBX files
(Inbox and Deleted). I should have done my
housekeeping. I should have thought of that . . .
