A friend's comp. running Win98 will shut down about 5
minutes after booting up. It does so all the time and
needs to be reset before booting again. It doesn't matter
what she is in the middle of doing, it simply shuts off of
it's own accord. Any ideas?

The computer is probably over heating.
or
Check for viruses. Blaster.Worm can cause this.

More info would help.
For instance, when she 'resets', does it then run without a problem or does
it shut down after 5 min again?
Has she done an up-to-date virus check.
How long has this problem been going on?
Any error messages?
Does it just 'freeze' or just shut down requiring a push on the On button to
restart or does it simply just reboot by itself?

Not much to work with here.
