Drop down boxes will 'drop down' only after several
seconds (15 to 20!) wait time. This occurs in Windows,
and Office. I have Windows 98 SE and Office 97. For
example, when I want to open a file in Word 97,I either
click on the 'open folder' icon or go to File, Open. A
window opens up. I click on the drop down box to open up
a list of the different available drives (such as
Desktop, My computer, A: floppy drive, C:, etc). I have
to wait several seconds (15 to 20 seconds!) for the drop
down menu to actually drop down. This also happens in
other Office programs and even in Windows (I have 98SE),
such as when I go into my computer and try to change the
drive I'm exploring by clicking on that drop down box.
Is there a way to speed this up? It is most annoying to
have to wait so long for the drop-down box to drop.
Thank you!

The first thing I usually tell people to check for whenever there are
application problems, is to check for and install the laitest updates.
However, in this case, it's most likely a different issue.
1) What speed processor, how much memory, hard drive size ( how much free
space )?
2) What applications are being loaded @ startup? ( run msconfig and look @
the startup tab )
The only applications which are a must have are usually only virus and
firewall type apps. The following link shows you what each application is
used for and which are safe to disable. The more you disable, the more
memory and resources free up...the better performance.

3) How many files and folders under "My Documents"?
4) How many fonts? ( check under C:\Windows\Fonts )
