My friendly local computer shop replaced my motherboard
and processor after the original ones burned up. I went
from Pentium 800MHz to AMD Athlon XP 1.6GHz. Now Windows
operations in general are significantly slower (some
applications are significantly faster). Also, it takes
forever to shut down, and shutdown/restart doesn't work.
I'd appreciate any advice you have to offer. Thanks.

When a different motherboard is put into a system, it's usually recommended
to reinstall Windows to get the maximum performance.  Before you do this,
try installing the drivers for the motherboard...they might have forgoten to
do it at the store.
