How can I restore my windows 98 2nd edition operating
system to a previous state because I recently started
getting error messages that causes my computer to crash.

You cannot as W98 has no such feature.  You can restore the registry to
one of the five backed up copies; however, this does nothing for file
changes (system.ini and win.ini excepted).  Your best bet is to post the
problems here.  Post the *exact* error message(s) and what was going on
when it/they appeared.  If there is a details button, click it and post
that message verbatim--the registers are not required.
