I have a pc with windows 98 - several programs have stopeed responding
properly (they will lock up) because of a rogue program that shows up in the
program list if you press cntl - alt - del. This just started happening
recently, there have been no new programs loaded (that I know of) on this
workstation. The program causing the problem shows as "Scrsng" in the
program list - if I force it down then the other programs that were locked
will come back to life, and the problems are fixed until I log out and log
back in again, then the Scrsng is reloaded and it starts all over
again.,.........
Does anyone have any idea what this program is?

No idea what it is, but try disabling it at Startup.
Check in Msconfig for any oddities.
(Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab)
If you cannot see anything in Msconfig then:
Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.

Do a Find for it on your computer and then check its Properties.
You may be able to find out more about it in msconfig .

Just to be sure your system is clean, download, install and run a copy
of Spybot Search & Destroy. You can get a copy at Cnet's download.com
The utility effectively searches out and eradicates spyware and trojans
that McAfee or Norton don't spot.
