I have a win98SE workstation that is unable to shut down - it reboots
itself instead of properly displaying the "it is now safe to turn off
your computer" message. Wjhen I go to start>shut down it emits a few
beeps, the display goes dim... then the reboot occurs. ANy ideas why?

Thanks!

Hi Ewa,

This is a common problem in Win98 SE where Fast Shutdown is still enabled.
Run MSCONFIG, click Advanced, and make sure Fast Shutdown is disabled.
If the Win98 SE Shutdown Supplement was installed this option will be not
appear in MSConfig. If that doesn't do it go to James Eshelman's Shutdown
Troubleshooting Site and go through it step by step.
