I was curious what I can do to speed up the performance of my machine. I'm
running 98 se with 512 ram. This slow performance has recently been
happening. When ever I have WM Player open, my machine runs really slow. I do
regular scheduled maintanence on the machine and I keep a minimum to my
background aps running. Windering how I can fix the speed. As I stated
before, the machine has fun flawlessly and quick up until abount a few weeks
ago. Thanks.

What type of security software are you using? I have recently found the same
problem on my machine and it appears to be caused by updates to McAfee
Firewall and Privacy Service. I believe I need to reinstall them a certain
way to prevent the significant performance hit, which is why I'm out here
looking at the newsgroup.

Is regular defragmentation a part the system maintenance? If the drive
gets excessively fragmented, it may lead to instability and slow
system speed. Especially after downloading updates, patches, hotfixes
etc the drive may get fragmented sooner than u realise.
