When I move my sound slider up and down I do not hear the basic DING noise
on my 98 laptop.  I do not hear any noise as a matter of fact.

Does anyone know why?

Thanks

John

I disabled all sounds on all of my systems.  All they do is slow down your
computer.

I'm not sure what you mean by not hearing any noise... as in no ding or, no
sound when listening to music or watching movies etc..

What have you checked so far, and what was the result?

This seems to depend on the sound card and its drivers - some offer the
ding, others do not.

Volume Control uses the Default sound when you release the volume
slider.  Open the Control Panel, Sounds, and click the Default Sound
event.  Does it read "Ding.wav"?  If so, does it make noise when you
click Preview?
