i messed up...i was creating a log.sys file & i opened it in paint...
however, i had the
always use this program to open this type of file checked by accident & now
all my .sys files open in paint...so, log.sys file doesn't work...how do i
restore the default windows setting for opening files....i also would like to
know how do u close programs that are running in the background but show up
on system information running task...(not all of those running show when u
click ctrl+alt+delete)...thanks

ASSOCIATING FILE TYPES . . .
2. Practice. It is a bad idea to associate
file type SYS with any program at all. So
simply remove this particular file association.

The full list of all programs currrently running is
provided by
MSINFO32.EXE / Software Environment / Running Tasks
and
MSINFO32.EXE / Software Environment / Running Tasks
(latter also shown by Ctl Alt Del.)
Post again here to explain the purpose of your
file named LOG.SYS.

yeah, i have that but it doesn't list sysfiles as one of the file
types :-)

you can install or change your startup/shutdown screens; logo.sys is
the startup screen; i did not mean log that was a typo :-); thank you for
your help

Read the Help file about
Associating Files with Programs. Go via
EXPLORER (My Computer) /View / Folder Options / Filetypes
and if you find any such association for *.SYS
delete it.

(and may be impossible for those that are components
