i reinstalled win98se, when it came to the part to restart your computer,
comp restarts then hangs on the windows screen where it says using windows
for the first time and doesn't go any further, blue scroll line on bottom
keeps moving but nothingelse happens. computer does not freeze as cursor and
keyboard still function. i have always booted to c: and have windows on e:
has worked fine for years, any ideas?

This hints that the reboot routine is muddled by
conflcting instructions (perhaps seeking both
C:/Windows and E:/Windows.)
If you want a standard installation, it may be
helpful remove any earlier boot managers and
FDISK /MBR
and reinstal from scratch. Post results here,
especially if you now want E:/Windows.

Why did you re-install Windows? If there was a problem with the previous
installation, are you sure you fixed whatever was causing that problem
before re-installing?
Try booting to your DOS startup disk and confirming that C and E are both
accessible, and that the contents of those drives are what you expect to
see..
Unplug all peripherals you aren't using, such as printer and scanner, and
try again.
