Windows is an operating system.  To identify the
OS we can key (in DOS) command VER or else
in Windows do / start / settings / control panel / system.

When RAM chips are in a PC, the BIOS (shown
at boot) displays their number and a couple more
details.  This occurs before any OS is loaded.

We do not need an OS installation CD for either function.
