You may wish to get some professional assistance in fixing this if your
printer manual doesn't offer any assistance for this error.

I work for HP and I am tech support for the PSC and
officejet printers - Best thing you can do is pull as hard
as you can on the carriage, in the state its in its broken
anyway so your not going to do any damage.

If it moves freely then clean the encoder strip with a
damp coffee filter or a qtip - The encoder strip runs
behind the carriage and is about 1/4 of an inch wide and
is clear or smoky grey.

If that doesn't work call HP tech support 1-800-474-6836
if your in the states and they can replace the unit under
warranty for you.
