The XP system has a lexmark 3100 connected via USB. The
Win 98 system sees this printer in net neighborhood and
can share files etc. When installing the Lexmark on the
98 system the wizard aborts and when using the
manufacturer's program it says it can't find the
printer...? Help?
On the Windows XP computer, open up the Printers folder, right-click the
shared printer and select Properties. On the sharing tab you'll find a
button to install additional drivers for other operating systems. Use this
option to install the Windows 98 drivers on the Windows XP computer, then
when you connect to the shared printer from Windows 98 it will download the
drivers it needs from the XP computer.
