Hi,
I'm getting an error message whenever I try to print
regardless of the source.  The message states:  There was
an error writing to the usb002 for the printer (Lexmark
Optra E310) Data error (cyclic redundancy check).  I've
tried checking out support but can't find any articles
that refer to the cyclic red check and printing.  Also no
luck at Lexmark.  Rebooting seems to help, but only for a
short time and not always.  I'm running windows 98 and the
printer is as above.  Any suggestions?  Thanks very much.

I'm going to suggest a couple of long shots. CRC-detected errors are errors
in data flow. These errors are detected by adding information to the data
stream that provides redundancy and then checking the data stream for
changes in the data. Because of the method used to add this information, it
is called a Cyclic Redundancy Check.

To check the possibility of errors introduced by disk operations, run
scandisk on all local HDs and fix all errors. Rebooting helps, possibly,
because the next try at printing might place the spool file data in a
different place on the disk. This will not help if the error is introduced
by the HD controller or associated device driver.

By any chance, are you near any strong RF sources (FM radio broadcast
antennae, RADAR, &c)? Try placing the printer in a different location and
changing the routing of the cable to the printer. RF might be introducing
changes to the data stream to the printer.
