LPT1 Port (ECP Printer) HELP!!

I'm running Win 98 had an epson Stylus C60 hooked up,
worked fine, purchased a brother printer/fax etc... not
working.  Been on the telephone all day, Brother said it
was Epson's problem Epson said it was Sony, Sony said it
was Brother.  For heaven sake can someone please end this
agony!

The parallel port can be configured in the bios
to be ECP or EPP or both.
