I boot up my computer and print a few documents using an
HP660C printer and Windows 98 operating system.
I then do nothing for about 1/2 to 3/4 hour. The computer
is totally idle as far as human input is concerned.
I then go to print another document and I get the
following error message.
The printer is out of paper. Add more paper.
To continue printing click RETRY.
Windows will automatically reset after 5 seconds.
Of course, in typical Windows fashion nothing gets reset
and the error message keeps popping up.
I have unplugged the printer and repluggd it ...no help
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver....no help.
If now you shut down and reboot the system the printer
works just ginger peachy. Needless to say there is plenty
of paper in the printer
What is giving the out of paper signal after 1/2 to 3/4
hour? What file gets the signal so as to effect the error
message? What can be done to overcome this condition?
Any help would be appreciated 'cause it is sometimes
really awkward to save something that needs printing so as
to be there after rebooting...and besides rebooting too is
a pain in the gadafastrat.

It sounds like something running in the background might be interfering with
the communication with the printer. I'd try clean booting to see if you
still have the problem. If the problem goes away, then add things back one
at a time until you determine which item loading at startup caused the
problem.
