Iam using Win98 and HP deskjet 640c printer. The printing is not working
properly from windows. I had tried HP trouble shooting and printed from DOS
(C:>DIR>LPT1) successfully. But its only printing the very first line of the
document and some other jung characters from word, PDF etc. I think may be
due to some problem with wrong communication between computer and printer.
can any one help me in solving this problem?

I don't recognize the problem you're having, though someone else might. My
solution would be to uninstall the printer entirely, and then reinstall it.
First, uninstall any applications that might have been installed along with
the printer from Add/Remove Programs. Next uninstall the printer from the
Printers folder, then check Device Manager to make sure the printer isn't
listed there anymore. Then shut down your system (do not restart) and unplug
and disconnect the printer.

Now, go to the following link, read the instructions carefully, save the
page so that you can refer to it later, and then download the drivers
package. Follow the instructions carefully. Please post back with the
results.
