I am running Micrsoft 98 Second Edition in a desktop
attached to a HP T45 Office Jet Printer. When I attempt to
cancel a printing per the Microsoft Help instructions (
start, then settings, then select printer, highlight, then
cancel or pause printing) I get a message that says "You
are not authorized to modify this printing", and the job
continues with no way of me stopping it short of simply
turning off my printer. My desktop is connected to an
office T1 line, but none of the other printers in the
office are hooked to my desktop as an option, only my own
personal HP is. How do I get "authorized" to cancel a
printing? Help!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Have you tried first pausing the print job?  I did a search of the Microsoft
Knowledge Base and also searched Google and your query is the only one that
I find with this message.  Please double-check that you are quoting the
message exactly.

If this is the message, then the problem may be caused by something that you
are running at startup or by restrictions placed on you by your network
administrator.

To test the first, try a clean boot.  Go to Start, Run and type:  msconfig
Choose Selective startup and then remove the check from Startup items.
Exit and restart your computer and then try to cancel a print job.
