These have been combined as one post since none of my
previous havent recd attn.  Im NOT saying anything
negitive here, just trying to help... TIA!

---------------------------------------------------------
error message:

There was an error writing to LPT1: for the printer
{Lexmark 5700 Series ColorFine}:

--------------------------------------------------

I have uninstalled the sftwr numerous times, switched
cables,done the "lpt1:dos" thing, switched spool settings,
tried this 5700 on another machine(works fine), went into
the BIOS and changed from ECP to std\bi-dir...
---------------------------------------------------

I beleive that there is POSSIBLY a file that is duplicated
or many doubles (from uninstall\reinstall) that I just
cant seem to find that is causing this confliction between
the ToshSatPro440CDX and this Lexmark 5700.

After this problem begin it was doing "cleaning cart"
fine, test page was fine, alignment was my first clue that
something was wrong!  Wouldnt ACCEPT the corrections in
the LX5700 control panel!

Now it wont print NOTTA!  But over on the desktop INFINIA,
All is okie dokie, peachy keen!!!

NOW..... My INFINIA wont print!!!!!  Could I have a VIRUS
that NAV has NOT picked up and the virus travel through
the Bitronics DataSwitch????

well the INFINIA 7160 win95a still wont print to the
LX5700 but will print to the Canon MultiPassC2500(geezzshh
I have old equipment) So this is good, although for a
moment in time I thought I was screwed.
----------------------------------------------

I think I will reinstall the MPc2500 sftwr in the morning
and see if that will print. If so, then this LX5700 will
go by the way of a rectangular box on wheels at the
jobsite the next day!!!!!! Unless someone wants to buy
it???  ;) Ill start the bidding @oh, say......$10.00!

(i never did reinstall the canon sftwr cause I KNEW that
wasnt an issue)
----------------------------------------------------

Im just curious about something here, Before I started
having my printing to LPT1: problems, I would SOMETIMES
get ipf's or GPFs most of the time it would involve the
kernl32 or the msvcrt ndswan16 and such... When I look
through the c\win\sys folder and right clk for PROPERTIES
of these and other CRITICAL files for startup or programs,
I notice that the CREATED date is <unknown>... What is the
most EFFECIENT/best way to compare these exsisting files
with the latest greatest?
---------------------------------------------------------

Should I just backup everything (my personnel data) and
reinstall win98se?  I DO NOT have any software for this
ToshibaSatellitePro440CDX!!! So Im not sure that FDISK is
logical for me and this machine\puter!
----------------------------------------------------

I reinstalled win98se ON TOP of win98se on the Toshiba
SatPro440CDX... I didn't loose any personnal data that I
can see so far, I did notice that my USED space decreased
by about40megs, <{HMMMmm}.. HOWEVER,.... I still get
an "error writing to LPT1:" when trying to print to the
LX5700.... So now I am basically back to sq1!

OK Now where do I go....And what do I do?  ANYBODY????

THANKS IN ADVANCE

DAN  :)

Unfortunately, that awfully long and convoluted URL is a pain to use.
So a summary of the toshiba info is that --
if computer will print fine with some printers, and not others, look for
the following or similar entries in the system.ini file.

[386Enh]
device=cis1284.386       (Multipass)
device=Lex01.386          (Lexmark
device=Lexsw2.386        (Lexmark
device=Okiport.386         (Okidata
device=Sumovmi.386      (Panasonic laser
device=vcpd.386
device=vecpd.386 <--- Netscape Navigator

device drivers that are loaded in SYSTEM.INI that will hold on to the LPTx
port.
Rem these lines out by putting a semicolon (;) in front of them and restart
the computer.
The printer should be fully functional now.

Note: these lines will be different for different printers. For instance,
another model of Lexmark printer would be Lexsw2.386. Therefore try to
locate and "Rem" anything that looks like a printer driver. HP usually uses
hp or HP as the start of a name.
