From prior post Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
describes the problem, but will not fix it! It appears
that computer is FOOLED into thinking a Banyon VINES
network client is present.  This program cannot find this
client to remove it!!

What program are you referring to?  It is best to describe what you did and
what happened.

More Info:  This a reconditioned Dell Laptop that I have
had for appx. 1 yr.  From Start to Find folders & files I
located the remenants of old Banyon VINEs documents which
I have deleated the contents of.  Don't know how to get
rid of the empty files.  Banyan Vines documents were for
a modem to run a lan based system of a previous owner.
From this documentation I have removed Drivers protsman &
drivers ndisban$ from the Protocol.ini file, using
sysedit.  There is nothing in the windows System.ini file
that I can identify, as referenced by Microsoft Knowledge
Article 194845.  I still have the problem.  I can press
any key to continue - but I do not like doing this.

Just guessing but I would run the registry editor again and do a search
(rather than going to the specific key mentioned in the article) on:
vvinsed            and delete it if found.  Press F3 to continue the search
just in case there is more than one reference to it in the registry.   If
that doesn't do it, then do the same for:  ndisban
