If you can delete the registry entry while off line and a reboot without
going on line returns the entry, then something being started at boot is
writing the entry back to the registry. See if you can identify it using
this technique:

As a work around, you could create a .reg file that could be used to delete
the entry after booting.

When I open up the registry........
(HKEY_Users/MyName/software/microsoft/mediaplayer/player/se
ttings/client id)
..........there is no longer a long number client id. But
I still have the lock-up problem. It only happens when I
try to open "My Computer", or "Network neighborhood". All
other programs open and work fine.
