I get a troubling error when trying to sign in on my PC. I
turn the PC on, it starts booting then I get a blue
screen - Checking drive for errors. Then after it gets to
100% the following message shows:

"Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run
windows application. The windows registry or system INI
file refers to this device file, but the device file no
longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose try
unistalling the associated application using its uninstall
or set up program. If you still want to use the
application associated with this device file try
reinstalling that application to replae the missing file.
c:\windows\system\vshinit.vxd

hit any key to continue"

I am a novice but if directed I am sure I can fix it. How
do I know what program this error is in reference to and
how can I put that file back if it is indeed missing.

Thanks for listening
