I have a retail version of Win98SE upgrade that was
installed on a Win95 computer I no longer use.  I also
have an IBM THinkpad with factory installed Win98 that
needs to be upgraded to Win98SE.  Will this retail upgrade
work?

Starr I have a similar problem. I have 98 on a laptop and
want to upgrade to 98 se but I get an error the I can not
upgrade this operating system. Can you upgrade from 98 to
98 se?

Please post the *exact* error message(s) and what was going on when
it/they appeared.  If there is a details button, click it and post that
message verbatim--the registers are not required.

Wasn't there a disk specifically for upgrading from Windows 98 to
Windows 98 SE, then a different disk to upgrade from 95 to 98SE?

Thank you,
Jason Whorton

There was a special *update* disk that would only upgrade W98 to
W98SE--it originally sold for $20 but I have not seen it offered in
quite a while.  The W98SE *upgrade* disk will upgrade W95 or W98 to
W98SE.

Using a retail Windows 98 CD to install onto a laptop is a hazardous
exercise.  Laptops often use unusual hardware that is not supported with a
retail disc.  At best your laptop may work poorly, at worst it may not work
at all.
