Greetings oh gurus. my win98se machine is starting to slow down and go
unstable at times. Trillian (a chat program) seems to exacerbate the
slow down so that any other program (and the mouse movement) becomes
very slow and poorly responsive. Virus checks, adaware checks, spybot
checks and regclean are all ok. Is this a case of needing a "doirty"
install?
Thanks

Maybe. I've never noticed Trillian (or, in recent years, any Instant
Messenger program) being that much of a drag on a system, though it could
depend on the hardware, the ISP, etc.
Before going the route of an over-install, you might want to try a few more
house-cleaning features. Click the "Computer Health" link in my signature
and work through all the points listed there. Also, there may be spyware
hidden that even your excellent steps haven't caught - I suggest you go
through the Quick-Fix protocol I have at http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm -
even when you've already done some of the steps, since the sequence of steps
mattes somewhat - just to be sure.
