When starting up my computer, message received 'cannot
locate WIN.COM'. I put my installation disk in to
reinstall WIN98SE, but found that the CR-ROM was not
working. Then went to Windows Explorer, and no D: drive
listed.
I have since reformatted the hard disk, but I cannot use
the CR-ROM without the missing file MSCD001.
Have checked my installation disk and the file is not
present.
My start-up disk reports error 'Device Name: MSCD001-no
drives found, aborting installation'.
The only CD driver file on my start-up disk is 'MSCDEX'
which I understand hasn't been used since WIN95.
I really need to be able to use the CR-ROM to reinstall my
operating system and all my programs.
Perhaps someone can help me with this.

MSCD001 is just the name used to identify the CDROM drive, it isn't
a device driver.
Either your bootdiskette is corrupt or your CDROM drive has gone
south.
Start by creating a new diskette www.bootdisk.com
