I had WINDOWS 98 re-installed but the service company did
not reinstall the device drivers.
After installing the driver for my Epson printer, it
worked fine. After installing the remainder of my device
drivers the error messages listed below appear during
bootup and my printer no longer works. I get a message
suggesting I check the printer cable.

Questions:

1. Are the bootup messages related to the printer problem?
2. I am not on a network. If I followed the below
instructions and stopped at Wtep 4, is it possible this
would fix all the problems??
3. Do you have any better suggestions?

Thanks a million!

Ed

1.    Click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
2.    In Control Panel, double-click Network.
3.    In the Network dialog box, select Client for
Microsoft Networks, and then click Remove.
4.    In the Network dialog box, click OK, and then
click Yes to restart your computer.
5.    Repeat steps 1 and 2.
6.    In the Network dialog box, click Add.
7.    In the Select Network Component Type dialog box,
click Client, and then click Add.
8.    In the Select Network Client dialog box, click
Microsoft under Manufacturers.
9.    Under Network Clients, select Client for Microsoft
Networks, and then click OK.
10.    In the Network dialog box, click OK.
11.    Click Yes to restart your computer.

NOTE: You may be asked to insert your network CD-ROM. If
you do not have a network CD-ROM, contact your network
administrator for your specific network settings.

What happened when you checked the printer cable?  Was it OK, or did you
replace it?

I can't think of any connection between the printer problem and the
instructions to re-install your network client.

Jeff--

I checked the connetion several times and verified no
pushed pins or other obvious damage to the cable.  All
looked well. Do the these cables have a high failure rate?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Cheers,

Ed
