Uninstalling Win98 from dual boot system with XP Pro

I've currently got Win98 SE & XP Pro dual-booting on my system, but am no
longer interested in 98 now that i know how much more reliable XP is, so
want to remove it.

Before i do, i need a clearer picture of how to go about this; If I
'uninstall' 98, what will this do to the Windows (part of XP) dual boot?
Will I need to edit the MBR? How to uninstall 98? And all the other
questions i don't even know i'll need to answer.

Anyone help?

It depends on how you installed the dualboot. It's easy if you setup a real
dualboot with a real boot manager (where each OS sees itself as 'C' when it
boots), but if you're asking then you probably used the pseudo-dualboot
method built into XP where it keeps 98 as 'C' and makes XP some other drive
letter. When you boot into XP, if your 98 partition is still visible as 'C'
and XP is some other drive letter, then you're stuck with Microsoft's
method, in which case XP is really split across the pair of partitions and
you must forever keep the pair. You can delete the 98 stuff from 'C' (like
c:\windows), but don't delete or reformat the entire partition or you'll
break XP. Remove the 98 choice from the startup menu by going into XP's
"Control Panel" -> "Performance and Maintenance" -> "System" -> "Advanced"
tab -> "Startup and Recovery Settings" -> "Edit System Startup", and delete
the line pointing to Win98.

i did this, but rather than editing it manually i unticked "Time to display
list of operating systems" and now i boot directly into XP & now i'll just
delete the 98 partition.

That will work to bypass the menu, but don't delete the 98 partition! As I
said, that will break XP!
