Hello,

My Pavillion screen is operating with a black screen and
with white lettering.  It is currently in DOS.
C:\WINDOWS/*-+65489*/  See windows  bad command or file
name.
The keyboard is stuck as well as the mouse, monitor and
screen.
I went to this website (Option 1) support.microsoft.com
for updates for Windows 98 and was not successful in
obtaining any website or help.
I have an extended warranty which today I was informed
does not cover software.  Software which I was also
informed today is obsolete.  Microsoft personnel are very
reluctant to give information except the two options.
The first one of the options does not work and the second
one costs $35.  There should be more help when Option 1
fails.
Please help with this problem.
At the present time I do not have copying available, ao I
would appreciate being contacted telephonically at area
916-944-2311.
Thank you so much.

C:\WINDOWS/*-+65489*/  See windows
has either been typed from the keyboard or has been inserted in the startup
file (AUTOEXEC.BAT) in which case it indicates a corrupted file.

bad command or file name.
is the DOS response to the above command.

Get a new floppy boot disk (there is a utility that can create one available
at www.bootdisk.com) and boot to DOS, use commands like CHKDSK C: or DIR C:\
as a quick check on the status of the hard disk drive.  If HP has
diagnostics available, run them from DOS. Enter TYPE C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to see
if the startup file has become corrupted.
