Had to re-install win98. After setup is complete, the
computer re-boots and it tells me that it is "building
driver information database. After this, I get a white
box error message that says "Error loading explorer.ese
You must reinstall windows." When I close this window, I
get another windows box error message that says "The
explorer.exe file is linked to missing export
MFC42.DLL:6662" At this point the computer freezes. I
have tried to re-install several times but get the same
error each time.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

what method did you use to reinstall?
have you tried blowing away partitions by fdisking, formattting and then
reinstalling by booting from the cd?
my preference is to use the fdisk /mbr switch. then fdisk and delete any
and all partitions and make a new one(s).
format c: /s
boot off the cd
copy cabs to c:\win98se and run setup from that directory.

You must have reinstalled over your old installation and in the process, you
got mismatched versions of Explorer.exe and MFC42.dll. I suggest that you
extract both of these from the original Windows CD and then if the system
starts normally, reinstall or repair your updated version of Internet
Explorer.
