Have 4-5 year old compaq laptop and ran into many strange
issues due to virus and spy ware. As a last ditch
effort, had a brilliant idea to run the Emerency Recovery
Disk. Now I'm receiving the error message "Operating
System Not Found" upon start-up. I have since read
further and learned that I should have created a start-up
file. Have another computer with Window's 98 - will a
start-up file work from this computer, or is there
another fix?

You may find the boot floppy you need at
www.bootdisk.com
but some laptops are highly customized.
See if the Compaq web site covers your
particular model.
