I would welcome advice as how to load Windows 98 into my
computer. After reformatting the hard drive the method I
have used previously no longer works. One possible reason
is that I upgraded the CD Rom, though I have now connected
the original CD Rom back as before. I can hear the CD Rom
rotating at the appropriate time. Using the new CD Rom
gives the same result.
Computer details: 64 MB RAM, Pentium 11 Processor,
350MHz, 6GB disk, Runs Windows 98.
I have the original floppy disk and Microsoft CD Rom 1348
and product key.
The floppy boots the computer and correctly puts many
files on the C drive. If I use
A:\pre_img\factonly\reboot.exe then the CD Rom rotates
but the screen shows:
Searching for Boot Record from floppy. OK
Starting Windows 98...
Microsoft OEM Software Preload Utility
OEM Preload is checking target drive status
Checking for existing preload.
No existing preload found
This drive already contains and operating system. Preload
cannot continue
Press Ctrl + C
Terminate batch job (Y/N)
NB. The third line up does say "and" instead of "an"
Running reboot.exe from the C drive gives the same result.
Thank you, Brian
