I have a Windows 98 computer that defaults to online at
start-up. I am not able to open "My Computer" unless my
ISP is open. I can remove the check mark for operating on-
line and everything is fine until I shut down and at
start-up it defaults back to operating on-line. How can I
remove the default to on-line operation at start-up?

>try this: go to START button ,then RUN, type in
msinfo32.exe, when the Microsoft System Info box comes up,
click on the TOOLS tab, then from the list of files click
on the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION UTILITY, when you get there,
click on the STARTUP tab. This will tell you all the
programs that are loaded whenever you start your computer.
Uncheck them all except needed files (i.e. systray, load
profile, etc. but get uncheck unnecessary ones like anything
with AOL in it or Yahoo or games of any kind
