Running Win98/2000 on an older barely 486 puter.

It had an internal  Viking ISA 33.6 modem, replaced with a Best Data
ISA 56K.

The problem exists in  Control Panel/Modems.

General tab still shows a 33.6.

The modem new modem works, connects to the net.

I didn't seem to run a new driver from the Best Data disk.  Windows
ran its own process.

What shows in the General tab:

33.6 Kbps, Data Fax, internal PnP... (com2)

Standard Modem

How can I get the new driver for the 56K modem to replace the old
information.

I deleted all the Viking programs.

Standard cure for this sort of thing is:
In / control panel / system / device manager
remove completely any modem that appears;
reboot;
Windows should detect the modem as "new
hardware" and prompt you to instal the correct
drivers.  If not you can use / control panel / add hardware.
